The Mount Vernon Inn
Mount Vernon, Virginia
The Washington Volvo Club has staged our wintertime Firande for twenty-two years. With the exception of our first Firande, we've held our events at restaurants typically an hour's drive from Washington. This year we're going back to our origins. In celebrating the 25th anniversary of our Club, we'll be honoring our Club's namesake, between Christmas and Groundhog's Day, at a restaurant closer to Washington. Depending on what happens between Election Day and then, we may even celebrate an inauguration. We will motor to The Mount Vernon Inn at Mount Vernon, Virginia, on the day after our country's Inauguration Day. Mount Vernon is located on the Potomac about 8 miles south of Alexandria, Virginia, and the Inn is just outside the gates to the estate. Driving time is about 15 minutes from the Capital Beltway, via the eight-mile Mount Vernon Parkway, where the vistas are absolutely stunning!

In addition to our afternoon Firande, we're offering a special evening tour of the Mansion and other buildings. This candle-lit tour, led in groups by Mount Vernon's Interpreters of History, will start at 5 PM, when we'll have exclusive use of the estate. We will see and hear about places and things that the regular daytime tours miss. We anticipate the evening tour will last about ninety minutes. Since it will be dark by 5 PM, the evening tour will not visit certain unlighted locations on the estate. However, each person holding a ticket for the evening tour may also tour the estate in daylight prior to Firande at no additional cost. The per-person cost of the evening tour is $30; however, the first eighty WVC Members to register will receive a $10 rebate. It pays to belong to the Washington Volvo Club!
We may have a special display area set aside for Volvos. If you would like to have your car considered for display, please send a written description and a recent photo of your Volvo to Alan Marsh. Owners of selected cars will be notified by January 12th; photos will be returned.
Our Firande will begin with a social hour, from 1:30 to 2:30 PM. At 2:30 PM, we'll start our seated meal. Our three entree selections are Homemade Salmon Corncakes; or Chicken Breast stuff with Sugar-Cured Virginia Ham, with homemade Peanut Dressing; or Thinly Sliced Marinated Flank Steak with Mushroom Sauce. We'll have soup, homemade muffins, house tossed salad, and two vegetables. For desert we'll enjoy a selection of homemade pies.
Special Souvenir As a momento of this event, the Club will present a special souvenir to the first twenty-five WVC members to register, as determined by postmark. Although it may be possible for others to purchase the souvenir, we cannot guarantee its availability.
The Washington Volvo Club subsidizes the Firande for its Members. The meal cost for each WVC Member in good standing and one guest is $18 each. Please indicate your membership number and expiration date. The cost for non-members or additional guests is $28 each. We must limit our Firande group to 170 by date of postmark. The first 100 will be seated in the main dining room; others will be seated in adjoining rooms. You may register by completing the form found in your November Volvamus and mailing it with your check, payable to the Washington Volvo Club. Please include a self-addressed, stamped envelope (SASE). Your registration confirmation will be mailed by January 12th. Your check is non-refundable after January 12th. In case of winter weather, if the restaurant is open, our event is a "go".
